Individual Counseling

Support Groups

Doug Duncan, MS, LPC, is a professional counselor licensed in the state of Texas and practicing in the Dallas area. Doug specializes in helping people recover from religious or spiritual abuse, cult involvement, depression, phobias, trauma, relationship conflicts. As a recovering former member of an aberrational group, Doug is sensitive to the particular concerns of people struggling to overcome the legacy of cultic and spiritual abuse.
Doug Duncan, MS, LPC, along with his wife, Wendy, MA, LBSW, facilitates a peer support group for former members of cults and religiously or spiritually abusive groups. The support group offers a safe place for individuals who are attempting to recover from experiences with spiritually abusive cults, churches, and other organizations. The Duncans are former members of a pseudo-Christian cult who have used their experience to help others who are struggling to recover from the cults and abusive groups and other organizations.

Recovery Coaching

  • Education on characteristics of unhealthy groups.
  • Identify obstacles in the recovery journey.
  • Improve insight & understanding of one's spiritual abuse.
  • Develop strategies to find healing, acceptance, & hope.
  • Work on coping strategies and action plan for recovery.
  • Help in releasing guilt and shame of experience.
  • Explore false beliefs and doctrines.
  • Understand the mindset of abuser and personality of cultic/spiritually abusive leaders.
  • What the Support Group is:
  • Opportunity to share in a safe place.
  • Peer support in a nonjudgmental group.
  • Basic educational information.
  • What Does It Cost? Just your willingness to come. We do not charge for attendance at the support groups.
  • When Do the Support Groups Meet? The virtual support group meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. We are currently meeting via Zoom.
  • The Wounded Sheep group meets in person on the second Sunday of the month. Contact Wendy Duncan for more info.
  • How do I get involved? To ensure a safe environment for all participants, an initial telephone or face-to-face meeting with the facilitators is required before attending the support group. The purpose is to:
  • Explain the purpose and guidelines of the support group;
  • Determine if the individual can benefit from this support group; and
  • Screen out individuals who are posing as former cult members.
